Electrical Inspections & Code Compliance

Wired Wise Electrical Contracting provides home electrical inspections and code-compliance reviews in St. Albert and Edmonton. A private inspection by our Master Electrician tells you what condition your wiring is in. It is different from a City permit inspection, which is done by the City's Safety Codes Officers on permitted work.

Whether you're buying, selling, or just want to know your wiring is safe, a home electrical inspection can make all the difference. We'll walk through everything, identify issues, and explain what needs to be fixed—so you're never left in the dark about your home's electrical health.

  • Done to code by a Master Electrician
  • Honest quotes, no upselling
  • Licensed, insured, WCB covered, ECAA member

When an electrical inspection helps

  • Buying or selling a home, especially an older one
  • Homes with aluminum branch wiring or past DIY work
  • Before a renovation, basement development or suite
  • Insurance or lender questions about wiring (we report what we find; acceptance is up to your insurer)

What we look at

  • Panel condition, labelling, breakers and signs of overheating
  • Grounding and bonding
  • GFCI and AFCI protection where expected
  • Receptacles, switches and visible wiring methods
  • Smoke and CO alarm placement
  • Capacity for planned loads

Which code applies

Alberta adopted the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.1-24, in force April 1, 2025. Existing installations are generally assessed against safety and the code in force when installed; we will explain which findings are hazards and which are simply older practice. The Alberta Electrical Utility Code covers utility systems, not additional household wiring rules.

How permits and inspections work in St. Albert

Where a permit applies, the City of St. Albert's certified Safety Codes Officers are the authority having jurisdiction and do the local inspections. The usual sequence is:

  • Permit obtained before work starts. In Alberta, Master Electricians are the contractors who pull electrical permits; homeowner permits exist only in limited cases. Under the City's brochure, a homeowner permit is limited to their own occupied single-family home and does not cover panel changes, hot tubs, service work or rental occupancies.
  • Rough-in or installation inspection before wiring is concealed, when applicable.
  • Any corrections completed, then the final inspection and documentation.

Inspections questions

Is a home electrical inspection the same as a City inspection?

No. City Safety Codes Officers inspect permitted work. Our inspection is a private assessment of your existing system.

Will you guarantee my insurer accepts the wiring?

No one can guarantee that. We give you a clear written summary of what we found and what was corrected.
